Probiotics

  • I really wish I knew about this Klaire Labs Infant Probiotic Powder when mine were infants. While it is available on Amazon, some of the reviews expressed concerns about valid distributors. The Klaire labs website also states that third-party websites are not authorized distributors. I would suggest asking your pediatrician about this probiotic.

  • My favorite probiotic, Seed, recently launched its pediatric formula. It is a powder you mix into cold liquid and shake up. You can use code: PARULD15 for 15% off your first order.

  • This Garden of LIfe Kids' Probiotic is available at most health food stores (Sprouts, Natural Grocers, Whole Foods). When Sprouts has its 25% off Multivitamins sale, it is a great time to stock up these boxes (they can be kept in the refrigerator).

  • I definitely plan to ask our pediatrician if she knows of a distributor for this Klaire Labs Children's Probiotic at our next appointment. Again, although I see it on Amazon, the reviews are mixed about whether it needs to arrive cold.

  • I have been using Seed probiotics since January 2020. I not only love sustainable packaging, but the combination of probiotics and prebiotics has helped my gut, response to allergies, and skin health. You can use CODE: PARULD15 for 15% off your first month if you would like to try it out.

  • Every few months, I alternative my usual probiotic (Seed) and use this MegaFood probiotic with turmeric.

  • This Garden of Life Once Daily Probiotic is readily available at most health food stores. My mom likes this one and the one for Women over 50.

Elderberry Syrup

  • I like Garden of Life Elderberry Syrup because there are no added sugars in this one.

    Organic Sambucus Blend

Organic Black Elderberry Fruit (Sambucus nigra L.) Extract and Juice Concentrate

    Organic Immune Blend

Organic Aronia melanocarpa (Aronia Berry), Organic Emblic (Amla, Phyllanthus emblica) (fruit) Extract, Organic Psidium guajava (Guava fruit and leaf) Extract

    Organic Echinacea purpurea Extract (root)

    Organic Rosemary Extract (leaf)

    Other Ingredients:

Organic tapioca fiber syrup, organic vegetable glycerin from non-GMO corn, purified water, organic elderberry flavor, organic lemon juice concentrate, mandarin peel flavor, organic citrus extract (to preserve freshness).

  • Gaia Herbs Elderberry Nighttime Syrup is ALWAYS sold out in stores during the winter, so I suggest you stock up! I am pretty consistent about taking this in the winter. I take this one at night for more restful sleep, especially if I feel a sore throat or runny nose coming.

Be aware that various versions of this product are labeled for ages 2 and older, but some are labeled safe for ages 6 and older.

    Vitamin C (from Organic Acerola)

Organic Black Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) juice concentrate

Organic Acerola fruit (Malpighia glabra) extract

    Organic Proprietary Blend

Freeze-dried extracts of Lemon Balm leaf (Melissa officinalis), Grindelia flowering tops(Grindelia robusta), California Poppy tops (Eschscholzia californica)

Other Ingredients: Organic sugar cane, water, natural flavor from lemon juice.

  • Mary Ruth's Elderberry Syrup is free of added sugars and a great option for those who wish to stay away from animal sources. You can use code PARULWORKS10 for 10% off your Mary Ruth's order.

    Per Serving: 150mg Black Elderberry

Other Ingredients: Purified Water, Organic Non-GMO Vegan Vegetable Glycerin (sourced from Vegetable and/or Coconut Oil), Organic Non-GMO Vegan Citric Acid (from citrus), Organic Non-GMO Vegan Natural Raspberry and Blueberry Flavors (from Raspberry and Blueberry fruits).

  • This Gaia Kids Alcohol-Free Elderberry Syrup is safe for kids ages 12 months and older.

    Organic Black Elderberry

    [Sambucus nigra] fruit juice

    Organic Acerola

    [Malpighia glabra] fruit extract

    Vitamin C

Other Ingredients: Organic sugar cane, water, organic honey and lemon juice.

  • You can buy your own dried elderberries and make your own elderberry syrup!

There are many recipes online and you can control the sweetener. Just be sure NOT to use honey for babies less than 12 months old.

If using honey for age 1 and older, you need to be sure to add it AFTER the syrup has cooled down. Raw honey should not be heated.

  • There are a few small-batch elderberry syrup options made by local health enthusiasts. Tasha Rose Remedies is based in California, but ships via her Etsy shop.

  • Cassie Green Health Elderberry Syrup is available at a few Dallas, TX retailers and available to ship online.

  • Earthley Wellness has an elderberry syrup that is safe for babies 6 months and older.

Multivitamins

  • Garden of Life Vitamin Code Kids is a chewable tablet. The things I am mainly looking for in a vitamin is folate (vs folic acid) and sugar. This one has 1g per serving, which is okay, but the sources of sugar include things I don't particularly care for. This is probably one of the reasons I'm not so consistent with giving the kids a multivitamin. For example, the bottom of the nutrition label states:

Other Ingredients: Clean Tablet Technoloy™ Blend: Organic tapioca dextrose, organic gum arabic, organic sucanat cane sugar, organic erythritol, natural flavors, organic stevia (leaf), citric acid, organic coating.

  • I came across this Klaire Labs Vitaspectrum multivitamin powder when taking a closer look at Klaire Labs. I am going to give this one a try since it does not include a laundry list of sweeteners. It also comes in a Berry flavor and Citrus Flavor that I believe I can mix into water easily.

  • This Thorne Multivitamin comes with an AM dose and PM dose, which I like because the magnesium in the PM dose is what helps with better sleep.

  • Klaire Labs has numerous options for Multivitamins, depending on your needs. This MultiThera 1 is Iron-Free, but they also offer MultiThera 2 with iron.

Calcium

  • These Mary Ruth Calcium Gummies are lower in sugar than most gummies. Yes, I know I don't like gummies, but I still cannot find a non-gummy calcium that is perfect, so we've tried a few. I DO like that these have D3+K2 in them, for better absorption.

  • I used to give the kids on these Nature's Plus calcium tablets since they don't drink milk daily. I would love to find one with less sugar (this one has 2g per serving). However, most other options require me to mix powder and that's one more step that I will likely skip.

  • I've taken this supplement and I like that it has magnesium and Vitamin D for absorption, but I have been focusing more on my diet and including weight bearing exercise to preserve my bone density, since my mom has osteoporosis.

DHA

  • Nordic Naturals Baby's DHA is what I gave my kids starting at 6 months, even though I was breastfeeding/pumping.

  • Kapil just started this Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega Jr. when he turned 6. It is a capsule, but it is chewable and he has had no issues taking it.

  • I take this Thorne DHA/EPA. I also try to sprinkle hemp seeds on my morning salad (which is full of omegas, so that's a great start)...Mensa, here I come!

  • Flora's Udo's 3-6-9 Blend is a vegan alternative to fish oil. While I alternate between brands, I like to take the liquid form of supplements whenever possible for optimal absorption.

Ingredients: Organic flaxseed oil, organic sunflower seed oil, organic sesame seed oil, organic coconut oil, organic evening primrose oil, organic soy lecithin, organic rice bran oil, organic oat bran oil, mixed tocopherols (non-GMO).

Vitamin D + Zinc

  • I like that these Carlson's D3K2 drops have 2000 IU (a stronger dose of D3) than Mary Ruth's. I can add this to my water and not really taste a thing.

  • I don't really recommend giving kids zinc supplements, but if your primary care physician has recommended it, I like using Mary Ruth's liquid zinc because I can hide it with the other liquid vitamins. Just be sure to have the kids take it AFTER they have food in their tummy and start with just 1 drop. Zinc is strong and can cause nausea, diarrhea and many side effects. I prefer to give kids foods that have zinc (they don't need much daily!)
